Staff

The 6 veterinarians of the new practice offer more than 150 combined years of veterinary experience. They are supported by a team of over 20 full & part-time nurses and animal attendants.

 

  • Phillip Adams BVSc



    Phillip graduated from Sydney University in 1967. After working in a mixed practice in Cootamundra for 2 years, he travelled to England where he worked for a further 2 years. On his return in 1971. Phillip set up Adamstown Veterinary Hospital. His professional interests include canine and feline medicine and surgery with a special interest in reproduction.

  • Stephen Deegan BVSc(Hons), MRCVS


    After graduating in 1974 from Sydney university, Steve began his career in a rural practice in Young, before spending 2 years in the UK as a locum. On his return to Australia in 1978, he spent three years in a mixed practice in Queanbeyan. In 1981, Steve took over Broadmeadow Veterinary Hospital where he continued to practice until the opening of BRVC. His professional interest covers all areas of small animal medicine and surgery.

  • Paul McCarthy BVSc

      Having graduated from the University of Sydney in 1994, Paul worked in a mixed animal practice before heading to London working as a small animal veterinarian. Paul has worked in Newcastle since his return to Australia in 2001. His areas of professional interest include sonography, ophthalmology and oncology. He is currently studying for his membership to the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Small Animal Medicine.

     

  • Simon Whitaker MA, Vet MB, MRCVS


    Having graduated from Cambridge University in 1980, Simon worked in small animal practice in the UK until meeting his wife Sally whilst on holiday. He emigrated to Australia in 1984, making Newcastle his home. His partnership at Adamstown began in 1987 where he has furthered his particular interest in orthopaedic and advanced soft tissue surgery as well as endoscopy and bronchoscopy.

     

  • Jonathon Nott BVSc(Hons), MACVSc, MRCVS

    Jonathon graduated from the University of Sydney in 2000. He spent two years working in mixed animal practice in Bathurst before he too travelled to the UK.  He spent three years working in a small animal practice in Birmingham, UK. During his time in the UK, Jonathon took the opportunity to pursue further studies in small animal surgery. He joined BRVC in early 2008 and in July became a member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in the area of small animal surgery.

     

  • Sue Graykowski BVSc 

    Sue graduated from the University of Sydney in 1982 after emigrating from the United States in 1971. After graduation she worked in Missouri for 2 years then travelled to the UK. Upon returning to Australia in 1986, she began work at Balmain Veterinary Hospital. In 1990 Sue and her Family moved to Maitland, and she began working part-time at Adamstown Veterinary hospital in 1992. In 1994 she completed a post-graduate course in radiology. Her main area of interest is small animal medicine.
